God has answered our prayers! Monday, Tony and I took Anthony for a follow up VCUG and ultrasound of his kidney to see how it is progressing. They took Anthony in for the ultrasound first and it still shows a dilated (enlarged) ureter. Then on to the VCUG - seeing Anthony put under anesthesia was hard - but the procedure went pretty fast - they inserted a Cather and filled his bladder up with contrast and watched the films as he emptied his bladder and there was no reflux. NO REFLUX!!!!
Let me go back - when Anthony was born the valve that keeps his urine from backing up into his kidney when he urinates was not working. He had a grade 5/5 - the worst and has been on antibiotics since he was born. The pediatric urologist was hoping for some improvement...maybe 3/5 and we may not have to do surgery on the kidney. We have been so worried about having the study done because he has been doing so well and has not had any urinary tract infections! Well I wish you could have seen the face on the radiologist during the test as she says ......there is NO REFLUX...the valve is working!!!!
The urologist had a surgery to preform so we didn't get to meet with him but did speak with his P.A. and Anthony gets to come off his antibiotics! Dr. Ewalt is going to call me with any further instructions - I can't wait to talk to him. He never mentioned that it may go away - he always told us that most of the time grade 5/5 doesn't get much better but we could hope for 3/5 - well I guess he doesn't know how many people Anthony has praying for him!
We will have to continue to monitor the kidney but this is fantastic news.
